LOUIS XIV PERIOD, IN CARVED AND GILT BEECHWOOD

PARIS, CIRCA 1745-1755
CLAUDE I SENÉ (PARIS, 1724-1792, MASTER IN 1743)

Moulded, carved and gilt beech; original ‘au point’ and ‘à l’aiguille’ tapestry, designed with flower motifs over a latticework set against a beige ground and curvilinear borders on a blue ground. 

H. 102.5 cm. (40 ½ in.); L. 71 cm. (28 in.); W. 75 cm. (29 ½ in.).

Stamp: G. SEИE, visible on the reverse side of the  back rail of each armchair’s seat.

PROVENANCE: auction in Paris, galerie Charpentier, Me Etienne Ader, 3rd and 4th June 1958, lot n°. 232, repr. Pl. LXII; auction in Paris, Palais Galliera, Mes Etienne Ader, Jean-Louis Picard and Antoine Ader, 10th June 1970, lot n°. 241; former collection of Gustave Leven (1914-2008), Chairman and Managing Director of the firm Perrier from 1948 to 1990.
