CLOCK OF THE PRINCES OF CARIGNAN

PARIS, LOUIS XVI PERIOD, CIRCA 1775.

Gilded bronze; plaques of eglomise and painted glass, lined with guilloché silver leaves; 

metal; enamels; red cloth. 

Case with two doors in varnished natural wood, bronze and gilt brass,

lined with red velvet inside. 

H. 62.5 cm. (25 ¼ in.); L. 21 cm. (8 ¼ in.); W. 21 cm. (8 ¼ in.).

MARKS AND INSCRIPTIONS: Donné par la Roi Charles Albert au Cte de Seyssel en juillet 1840 et Offert comme souvenir reconnaissant. à ses bons Amis Rte. et Ate. Cornelissen en mai 1853, engraved in two rectangular cartouches visible on one side of the clock’s base; 4537, inventory number engraved on the back of the movement; PENDULE PYRAMIDE AVEC UN AIGLE, Mention engraved in capital letters on a gilded brass plate attached to the clock’s case; ER/35/I35, Recent inventory number in black and red marker on a trapezoidal white plastic plate studded on the bottom of the left-hand side of the case.

 PROVENANCE: most probably from the collection of Marie-Louise-Thérèse of Savoie-Carignan (1749-1792), Princess of Lamballe
